Gone

It's October 1! The trip around the world has started! All my earthly possessions, besides what is in my car right now, are in a closet in my uncle's house (thanks Uncle Stef!). I left my mom's houseboat in my blue Nissan Versa this morning and won't be back in the Bay Area for nearly a year. I am filled with so many differing emotions - wonder and excitement about the experiences to come, sadness and nostalgia about leaving my home and the connections I've made there, pride that I've managed to pull off this crazy idea I dreamed up five years ago.

I'm writing this from Visalia and will be camping in the sequoias tonight. Who knows what the trail will hold? What experiences are out there? What sounds? I can't wait to find out.
